Space Science Investigator Badge 2018. Girl Scouts of the USA.
The October Issue of Smithsonian Magazine features a short article, “Read This Story and Earn Your Merit Badge in U.S. Cultural History: How scouting as encouraged boys and girls to be prepared over the years.”
The article notes that the changes in badges reflect the cultural changes in our history, emphasizing the trends toward STEM badges for Girl Scouts. The 12th badge in the story is the Junior Space Science Investigator badge, developed as part of the SETI Institute's Reaching for the Stars: NASA Science for Science Girl Scouts program.
Through the Girl Scout Stars program, the SETI Institute and its partners are developing space science badges for girls at every Girl Scout program level as a pathway for girls to develop a lifetime love of the cosmos and foster their enthusiasm for STEM.
