This month’s issue brings together a remarkable range of artistic practices that extend far beyond the studio, into orbit, deep time, and planetary environments. We are especially pleased to welcome Richelle Ellis as our newest affiliate artist, whose work exemplifies the expansive, exploratory spirit of the SETI AIR program, using space as both a medium and a lens through which to reconsider life on Earth. Across exhibitions, publications, and upcoming events, our artists continue to engage with scientific ideas in ways that are speculative, grounded, and deeply imaginative, reminding us that the search for understanding, whether through science or art, is always a creative act.
Happy reading!

AIR Program Spotlight
Introducing Richelle Ellis!
We are delighted to welcome Richelle Ellis as the newest affiliate artist in the SETI AIR program.
Richelle Ellis is an expeditionary artist, curator, and analog astronaut. Her art and research aims to use space to help life on Earth, to see the world – and ourselves – in new ways. Richelle creates artworks made for international orbit, etched on satellites, suspended by Stratollite balloons and aboard rockets. Her work spans exhibitions from the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, with recent artworks on the surface of the Moon. Richelle’s artistic ventures have taken her to glaciers near the North Pole to parabolic flights in zero gravity, into the Biosphere 2 and Analog Mars Missions with NASA Goddard, earning her accolades and residencies at renowned institutions such as Planet, Google Quantum AI, Relativity and the Karman Project.
Open Call
SETI AIR Daniela de Paulis and SETI Institute scientist Chenoa Tremblay have organized a new, dedicated SETI session at the Europlanet Science Congress (September 6-11, The Hague, Netherlands). Aside from pure science research, the session will also include presentations about outreach, communication, and artistic practice.
