Biography

Andrew Siemion is an astrophysicist specializing in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and holds the Bernard M. Oliver Chair for SETI at the SETI Institute. Siemion received BA, MA and PhD degrees in Astrophysics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008, 2010 and 2012 respectively. During the course of his studies at Berkeley, Siemion was awarded High Honors for Undergraduate Scholarship, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa Alpha of California, received a Josephine de Karman Fellowship (Undergraduate) and was awarded both the Dorothea Klumpke Roberts Undergraduate Research and Mary Elizabeth Uhl Dissertation prizes.

Siemion also serves as Principal Investigator for the Breakthrough Listen Initiative at the University of Oxford and Director of the Berkeley SETI Research Center at the University of California Berkeley, and he holds honorary academic appointments at the University of Manchester and the University of Malta.
