Position Title: Junior Systems Administrator
Reports to: Director, ITSF
Location: Mountain View, CA
FLSA status: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: $80k – $100k

 

The SETI Institute is seeking a highly competent and motivated professional to assist the Institute’s IT Department and contribute to the technical success of the organization. This position reports to the Director of IT and Security. 

The Junior Systems Administrator will assist with internal and external IT projects. Primary responsibilities include resolving technical issues as well as continued documenting, monitoring and supporting our IT systems. In addition to being able to learn quickly, the ideal candidate will be able to collaborate and work with IT team members in an effective manner. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with performing daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, software and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled backups
  • Respond to and follows up on help tickets to ensure proper resolution
  • Perform problem-solving tasks when alerted by a user or monitoring system
  • Coordinate contract renewals for both local and network applications and services
  • Work with team to successfully and thoroughly onboard and offboard employees
  • Administer user accounts on various platforms
  • Prepare laptops and virtual systems for employees
  • Update OS / software packages and firmware on network and local devices
  • Continuously manage and monitor computing and networking resources for private and public cloud environments
  • Consistent updates to IT procedures and documentation
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • One to four years of similar or related experience
  • (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a IT certification (3) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program

Physical Demands:

  • Physical demands include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs and ability to lift and carry 20 lbs. or more, with or without accommodations
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
