Location: SRI International, 333 Ravenswood Ave, Menlo Park, CA 94025

Presented by the SETI Institute and SRI, this SETI Talks event will feature the SETI Institute's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Class of 2017. The event will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 7:00 – 8:00 PM at the SRI International Conference Center in Menlo Park.

The REU program is in its 12th year at the SETI Institute. Students who have previously participated in this program have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in the sciences, published papers in peer-reviewed journals, become researchers, teachers, science writers and more.

Funded by the National Science Foundation (NFS), the REU program pairs students with mentor scientists on projects that include astrobiology, microbiology, planetary geology, observational astronomy and more. If a paper is later published based upon the research they participated in, their name is included as a co-author.

This year's students include:

Sergio Esteban, Cal Poly Pomona, mentor: Pascal Lee
Alelign Taye Beyene, CSU Long Beach, mentor: Matt Tiscareno
Aerbwong Chitamitara, Cal Poly Pomona, mentor: Jeff Smith
Khanh Luu, CSU San Bernardino, mentor: Virginia Gulick
Troy Maloney, Humboldt State U, mentor: Franck Marchis
Jose Barrios, Cal Poly Pomona, mentor: Gerry Harp
Sean Haas, Humboldt State U, mentor: Uma Gorti and Paul Estrada

Join us as these promising students offer "lightning talks" on the work they've been doing during the Summer of 2017 and answer your questions.
