Help patch the gap in the Cameras for Allsky Meteor Surveillance (CAMS) network

Despite all of humanity’s technological advances, we still don’t know much about the comets, asteroids, and meteors hurtling around our cosmic neighborhood. In fact, SETI Institute’s CAMS project, the world’s most comprehensive meteor-spotting network, is blind over the Northeastern hemisphere. This gap in coverage can be patched with a student-run meteor observatory in India.

YOU can help. Donate today to help raise $30k to build the observatory to patch the gap and help us spread the word using the information below.

Subject line: Help scientists monitor the sky 24/7

Hi there –
The SETI Institute is raising funds to patch a gap in their meteor-spotting network CAMS, a global system of cameras that monitor the night sky for activity. Right now, CAMS has a blind spot over the Northeastern hemisphere. It’s hard to believe, but even in this highly technical age we still don’t know much about the comets, asteroids, and meteors hurtling around our solar system. If we raise just $30k, we can patch the gap in the CAMS network with an observatory and ensure scientists have eyes on the skies everywhere 24/7.

Three educational institutions in India have expressed interest in hosting CAMS sites—we just need the funds! Computer science students at these institutions will help maintain the CAMS sites and use the data collected in hands-on projects building real-life expertise and promoting discoveries in meteor science.

Thank you!
