The SETI Institute invites applications for the position of President. The President provides leadership, vision, and direction for the Institute to ensure its continuing scientific creativity. The President must have the ability to think strategically and provide effective leadership across the full spectrum of work conducted at the SETI Institute. The President serves as a voting member of the Board of Trustees, reports directly to the Board, and supports the Board in all governance and strategic matters. The President directly manages/oversees fundraising including strategic planning and execution. The President is the chief administrator with ultimate responsibility for all SETI Institute activities.
The President’s position requires an advanced degree, significant administrative experience, and knowledge of non-profit organizational policy, structure and function. Demonstrated experience with governmental, scientific, professional, media, and donor constituencies is highly desirable. Corporate fund raising experience is a plus.
The Mission of the SETI Institute is to explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe. The Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 1984 to conduct scientific and educational research and programs. Currently, it employs ~130 people, including more than 75 research scientists. Most of the research and education projects are funded by Federal Agencies, including NASA and the NSF.
