Allen Telescope Array

Despite record heat at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory in northern California, on July 10, 2006, the Allen Telescope Array (ATA) successfully performed a series of tests, including synchronized movement.

View a time-lapse movie of 10 dishes moving in unison.

Find more information about the ATA at the SETI Institute website.

Keep up to date on progress on the ATA by becoming a TeamSETI member.  Our quarterly members' magazine, the SETI Institute Explorer, includes photos and the most current information by ATA project manager Dr. Dave DeBoer.

What is SOFIA?

NASA and the DLR, German Aerospace Center, are working together to create SOFIA   (Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy), a Boeing 747SP aircraft modified by L-3 Communications Integrated Systems to accommodate a 2.5 meter reflecting telescope. SOFIA will be the largest airborne observatory in the world, and will make observations that are impossible for even the largest and highest of ground-based telescopes.
