Hey, let’s meet last week for coffee. Okay, we can’t meet in the past … yet. But is it only a matter of time before we time travel? Physicists have teleported bits of light and maybe could someday teleport us, which might be bad news for airlines. Plus, the tricks that businesses use to manipulate your perception of time when waiting in line.

  • Eliot Gillum's SETI Talk on Tuesday October 04, 2016. The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence is a blind search across many dimensions—space and time being the most obvious. Every good SETI researcher does their very best to make the minimal reasonable assumptions, but time and resources are always limited, so various strategic optimizations have been adopted.

  • Giuseppe Etiope's SETI Talk on Tuesday Sept 27, 2016. It is widely accepted that the occurrence of methane (CH4) in the Martian atmosphere may imply the presence of active geological sources, i.e. gas emission structures in the Martian soil and subsoil. In other words, gas seepage, a process well known on Earth, should exist on Mars.

  • FAST telescope

It’s now the biggest single-dish radio telescope on Earth. Settled down in the bumpy karst of China’s Guizhou province, about 1200 miles southwest of Beijing, this newest instrument for studying the heavens is very similar in design to the famed Arecibo dish, renown both for its science accomplishments and its performance in two popular films, “Contact” and “Goldeneye.”

  • Leslie Young's SETI Talk on Tuesday Sept 20, 2016. Pluto's main atmospheric species, N2, is also frozen on its surface, as are its minor atmospheric species, CH4 and CO. The New Horizons spacecraft found complicated and intriguing evidence for a dynamically interacting surface and atmosphere. The REX instrument shows a planetary boundary layer that depends on whether there's N2 ice available to sublimate.

The SETI Institute is seeking an Executive Assistant to provide high level administrative support to the President/CEO, and the Management team.
Orbiter Detects Changing Climate on Early Mars
The early Martian climate remains hotly debated by scientists because the surface mineralogy and morphology indicate abundant liquid water was present, while atmospheric modeling is challenged to create conditions supportive of liquid water on the surface of early Mars.
Let’s be careful about this “SETI” signal
Several readers have contacted me recently about reports that a group of international astronomers have detected a strong signal coming from a distant star that could be a sign of a high-technology civilization.
Hear me now? 'Strong signal' from sun-like star sparks alien speculation - CNN news
An international team of researchers is now examining the radio signal and its star, HD 164595 -- described in a paper by Italian astronomer Claudio Maccone and others as a "strong candidate for SETI" -- in the hopes of determining its origin.
