Scott Hubbard

Scott HubbardScott Hubbard holds the Carl Sagan Chair for the Study of Life in the Universe at the SETI Institute. He also is a member of the faculty of the Stanford University Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Scott’s interests include the study of both human and robotic exploration of space, with a particular focus on forging a national policy that seeks to balance both. In this area, he has an ongoing engagement in Mars missions both as a member of National Academy of Science review groups and as a frequent consultant to current and future robotic projects.

Scott also furthers his interest in the field of astrobiology, through identification of techniques that may serve to detect the “fingerprints of life” either via in situ experiments or examination of returned samples. An active member of the Silicon Valley and California science and technology community, Scott is noted for his advocacy of the emerging need for understanding regional climate change and the potential enormous local economic impacts. He is also known as an expert on the emerging entrepreneurial space industry, and is engaged in examining the business case for new launch vehicles and small satellite proposals. Scott maintains an active lecture calendar and is regularly a plenary or keynote speaker in a wide variety of professional and public venues.
